IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE REGARDING COMMUNITY ACCELERATION, INVITATION TO VIRTUAL TOWN HALL 4/8/20
HAMDEN, Conn. - A message from Mayor Leng
This is an important message regarding COVID-19 from Mayor Curt Leng regarding an invitation to join a Virtual town Hall this evening at 8:30 PM live on the Town of Hamden and Mayor Leng's Facebook Page, where additional information will be shared, and question and answers will be discussed with all residents
Currently Hamden has over 125 residents who have tested positive for the COVD-19 virus and we’ve had two Hamdenites who have already lost their lives.
We are in the acceleration and community spread phase of this extremely serious pandemic. Fire Chief Merwede informs me that Hamden’s Emergency Medical Responders from our fire department are responding to an increasing level of COVID-19 related calls with Hamden people who are very sick, experiencing serious symptoms associated with COVID-19 and people that have gotten extremely sick very quickly.
We have an opportunity as a community to reduce the number of people who get sick and the number of people who lose their lives. We can only do this together and you have an enormously important part to play.
In order to keep yourself, the people you love and our neighbors and their loved ones safe we have to act right now.
Our Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director has made it very clear, you should only take trips outside of your home when it is absolutely essential.
This doesn’t mean you can’t go outside and get some fresh air, but going to the store and going to any other gathering of people, will put you in contact with people that have COVID-19 - increasing you and your families risk of being infected.
We must maintain extreme social physical distancing.
We need to wash our hands very regularly and wash common points of contact like doorknobs and flat surfaces, Cell phones and remote controls.
Today’s message is more direct and more serious. I need everyone to take it that seriously. If you stay home now, you will save peoples lives.
I am pleading with you on behalf of all of our residents and their families, and for the safety of our first responders who are facing extreme exposure every single day as they work to keep us safe, along with the medical services and public safety that we need and count on.
Please be responsible, please be safe and not sorry. Our town is counting on you to be Hamden heroes. Please stay home as much as you can, especially as these cases increase. We can slow the rate of infection and make a real difference by reducing the number of people who get severely sick and might lose their lives from this pandemic virus.
Stay home, stay safe, save lives.
I invite you to join me tonight for a Mayors a Virtual Town Hall that will focus exclusively on COVID-19 information that we know, action to the Town has taken, information the State and Federal Government is providing and much more, as well as question and answers that residents may have.
