Hamden Food and Cloth Mask Drive
May 13th & 14th
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Town of Hamden, Hamden Police Department, and Hamden Public Schools are collaborating to set up a mobile donation site to collect food for the Keefe Community Center food bank and Miller Senior Center food pantry. Cloth masks will also be collected to be distributed through the Elderly Services and Community Services Departments.
The mobile donation site will be at the Hamden Middle School parking lot (2623 Dixwell Avenue) from 9:00am to 12:00pm on Wednesday (5/13) and Thursday (5/14). Please leave your donation on the tables, and practice social distancing by staying at least 6 feet away from the staff.
Thank you in advance to everyone who donates food and masks. Due to the unprecedented economic hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic there has been a substantial increase in people using food pantries. The Keefe Community Center and the Miller Senior Center welcome all non-perishable food donations, but in particular are looking for certain items that have been more difficult to get through their usual sources.
Please consider donating:
- - Cereal
- - Hash
- - Oatmeal
- - Milk (shelf-stable such as Parmalat, dried, evaporated)
- - Canned meat
- - Tuna fish
- - Canned fruit/fruit cups
- - Crackers
- - Hearty soups
- - Mac and cheese
- - Mayonnaise
Commenting, Mayor Curt Leng said, “Hamden is working together as a community and we are very thankful that there are so many generous and good hearted people that want to help those who are going through difficult times. Because of these good people we’ve collaborated between the Town, Police Department, and Hamden Public Schools to set up these drives, which will allow us to collect supplies in a safe and socially distanced way (wear your masks!). This drive will benefit people who have needs, and also people who we really want to help stay home as much as possible due to underlying health concerns.”
The Town of Hamden thanks all those who can give to their community, and we look forward to seeing you at the mobile donation site.
