17th Annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service
Sunday, September 29, 2019
The Connecticut State Firefighter’s Association Memorial Foundation will host the 17th Annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, scheduled for Sunday, September 29, 2019 (Rain or Shine), at the Connecticut Fire Academy, 34 Perimeter Road in Windsor Locks beginning at 12:30 P.M.

The formal turnover of the Humphrey station to the Town of Hamden took place on December 17, 1949, in the company's upstairs quarters. Pictured, left to right, are Charles Lennox, Soren Hansen, Ralph Eno, Dr. Wilfred Munson, President E. Wilbert Thomas, Edgar Munson, Frank Warner, and Thaddeus Hasbrouck. Now privately owned, this 1978 Pierce minipumper on a Ford chassis once served as Engine 5 before it was reassigned in 1984 to the Co. 8, and later, the Co. 5 volunteers.

Joann P. Tortora
We deeply regret to announce the passing of Joann Tortora, wife of our brother HFRA member, Ralph Tortora Sr. Joann passed away unexpectedly, September 10, 2019 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She is also survived by her son, Ralph P. Tortora Jr., and his wife, Danielle, of Plantsville; her brother, George Porto and his wife, Patricia, of Meriden; her grandchildren, twins Tanner and Tyler Tortora, who affectionately called her "Nonni"; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated September 16th at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville. Interment in All Saints Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory can be made to Closer to Free, Office of Development, Yale New Haven Hospital, PO Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508-9979 or to the National Kidney Foundation Connecticut Chapter, 3000 Whitney Ave. #121, Hamden, CT 06518.
