2019 Hamden Elks Firefighter of the Year
Firefighter Kevin Recca has been named the Hamden Elks Firefighter of the Year for 2019. Well deserving of the honor, Firefighter Recca has been assigned to Station 2 since he came on the job in 2000. His extensive career résumé is included in The Advisor article below.
Kevin is a good friend to all HFD retirees. In addition to his outstanding professional credentials, Kevin has been a dedicated member of the Annual Local 2687 Retirement Dinner Committee for almost as long as he has been on the job, and has chaired the committee since his predecessor, Lt. Jimmy Dunlop, retired nearly thirteen years ago.
The members of the Hamden Fire Retirees Association thank Ff. Recca for his dedicated service to the department through the years and congratulate him as the Hamden Elks 2019 Firefighter of the Year.

The firefighter pictured above in the 1954 version of a "proximity suit" was Bill Bossoli. The outfit was actually made of asbestos, which might protect a firefighter from flame but not from the bad stuff associated with what it is made of.
Despite wearing something that today is considered a bona fide hazardous material, Bill Bossoli, who is still sharp as ever, will hit the century mark this coming May 18th.
Ff. Richie Lostritto, pictured to the immediate right of Bill, is a regular active member of the HFRA. Bill and Richie both joined the department in September 1950. Bill left the department in 1956. Richie retired in 1985 as Supt. of Alarms & Apparatus.
Capt. Paul Leddy, at the far right in the white helmet, went on to serve as Chief of the Department from 1960 until his retirement in 1984. Ff. Paul Rosadina, to the left of Leddy, also retired in 1984, at the rank of Commander (B/C). Chief Leddy passed in 1994; Cmdr. Rosadina in 2003.

Decades before the ubiquity of camera-equipped iPhones, an unidentified photographer was in the right place at the right time to catch the action as Lt. Bill Hines' crew members, Firefighters Art Heriot and Milner Benham, attacked this nasty car fire on Whitney Avenue near the parkway. What appears to be a 1965 Pontiac LeMans was heavily damaged in this October 1967 news photo clipped from The New Haven Register.

| NEVER FORGET!
We will always remember our brother firefighters who made the supreme sacrifice, and the thousands of other innocent victims who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
Always keep them, their families and the FDNY in your thoughts and prayers.
